Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) and Minor Stroke

The goal of this work stream is to facilitate the systematic redesign of minor stroke and TIA services for patients presenting post 24 hours in order to ensure equitable access to the best care for all eligible patients.

In light of this, the Network aims to:

  • Redesign TIA and minor stroke services within the Network for those patients presenting post 24 hours

  • Reduce long term functional disability, morbidity and mortality of stroke through redesigned services

  • Develop clear, agreed clinical/operational pathways

  • Assess the impact of redesigned system on existing TIA and minor stroke services

  • Ensure District Stroke Centres (DSC) are supported in the development and improvement of TIA and minor stroke services

The measurements for success will be:

  • % of carotid endarterectomy < 2 weeks

  • % of patients with an ABCD2>4 seen at DSC within 24 hours

  • % of patients with ABCD2<4 seen in TIA clinic within 1 week

  • Number of patients with TIA and minor stroke post 24 hours seen at DSC

  • Adherence to agreed clinical care bundle for TIA and minor stroke
