The Greater Manchester & Cheshire Cardiac and Stroke Network have a dedicated team who focus on finding ways to improve stroke services for patients within the local geographic region.
The Network has used the National Stroke Strategy as a basis to inform their work programme for 2008 – 2011. This work programme defines a number of different work streams which aim to tackle a number of areas of key priority. Each work stream has a clear objective, deliverables and measurements to define the expected benefits for successful delivery. These work streams include:
TIA* and Minor Stroke - aims to redesign Minor Stroke and TIA services for patients presenting after 24 hours in order to ensure equitable access to the best care for all eligible patients.
Hospital Care - this work stream aims to ensure that all stroke or TIA patients are provided with the appropriate assessment and subsequent hospital treatment and care following the acute stroke phase and in accordance with the National Stroke Strategy.
Post Hospital Stroke Care (Rehabilitation) - aims to ensure all stroke and TIA patients will have timely access to appropriate post hospital care as set out in the National Stroke Strategy.
