Patient and Public Involvement

One of the key roles of the Greater Manchester & Cheshire Cardiac and Stroke Network is to involve patients and carers in the process of improving the cardiac and stroke services within the local region.

Patients and carers have a wealth of valuable experience of the NHS service and this knowledge is vital for us to take on board when making key decisions about the future.

Patients who have suffered heart problems, or a stroke, often like to have a say in how their services should be improved or give their time to help other people with the same conditions in the future. Patients can give feedback as an individual, e.g. by completing a questionnaire or they can choose to take this one step further and become a patient representative. Patient representatives choose to join the Network team and learn to represent other people’s views, as well as their own.

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) is about putting patients and the public at the centre of all decisions that affect health. Giving patients and the public a strong voice in the decision making process will bring about real change meaning that the public will have real influence wherever health and health services are discussed. We wish to ensure that the public are able to influence priorities for our work programme and are fully involved in decision making at all levels.
