Patient Choice

What is patient choice?

Patients who require further treatment following their angiogram now have the option to choose where their treatment takes place, providing the hospital has the facilities to provide the care they require.

Are all patients eligible for free choice?

No, if the patient’s cardiologist decides that they need specialist treatment; all the necessary arrangements will be made and the patient will be referred to the appropriate specialist.

Will the patient have to stay in hospital when they come for their out-patient appointment?

No, they will see the medical team and then go home.

What happens if the patient has no transport?

If the patient is unable to arrange a friend or relative to take them to their appointment, then they can call their GP surgery who will arrange transport for them (this usually requires 3 days notice).

If the patient requires anymore advice whilst they are waiting for their out-patient appointment, who can they contact?

They can contact their Patient Care Advisor from the Greater Manchester & Cheshire Cardiac and Stroke Network on 0161 426 5951/53.

Common questions are often related to decisions surrounding treatments, locations and waiting times.  The Patient Care Advisor will help find out information and alleviate patient worries by helping and guiding them to making a choice that is most appropriate to them.
