


The goal for this pathway is for patients with arrhythmia, including atrial fibrillation to benefit from the recommendations of Chapter 8 of the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease; facilitating the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of this heart condition and preventing co-morbidities and complications of untreated atrial fibrillation.
The Network aims to:
Improve access to diagnostics in primary, secondary and tertiary care, including wireless technologies, remote monitoring technologies, ECG, 24 hour tapes, EP studies and ETT
Improve access to treatment
Develop rapid access clinics for blackouts, arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation
Develop primary care anticoagulant clinics
Establish long term funding for arrhythmia nurse specialists
Devolve pacing and follow up to local Sector laboratories
Expand pacing and implantable loop recording services
Establish ablation pathway
Support development of devices coordinator post
The measurements for success will be:
Increase in number of rapid access blackout clinics, arrhythmia clinics and atrial fibrillation clinics
Increase in pacing rates
Increase in ICD and other device implantation rates
