How To Get Involved

Currently, the Network is looking for individuals who are either cardiac or stroke patients, or who are, or have been carers, to participate in our patient and public involvement (PPI) work.  We will provide support and encouragement to ensure that there is broad representation of local patients from all groups. 

 We want to include hard to reach groups e.g. elderly people and people from minority ethnic groups, or who have disabilities, including communication problems.  We report regularly to the Network Board detailing patient views and ideas and we also open up the Network to the public about twice a year with our Patient and Professional Partnership Group; we call this the 'Triple PG'.

Here are the different ways to get involved in working with our Network:

• Act as a patient or carer representative on an Advisory Group, for example the ‘heart failure’ group, or the ‘life after stroke’ group.  There are many different groups which you can join

• Contribute as a representative to a Working Group or attend meetings to redesign planning of cardiac or stroke services

• Act as a patient information reviewer, e.g. reading new patient leaflets for usefulness and suitability.  This contributes to our consultation processes

Upcoming Opportunities

Following national changes to guidance on vascular surgery, the GMCCSN are holding a consultation with the public and members of the medical community to discuss the new guidance.

The consultation is open to all members of the public but may be of particular interest to:

• Patients (cardiac, stroke, or vascular patients in Greater Manchester and Cheshire)

• LINK Representatives

• Overview and Scrutiny Members

The consultation will take place on Wednesday February 9th at The Hallmark Hotel, Manchester, SK9 3LD. Travel expenses will be paid for members of the public.
