The Greater Manchester & Cheshire Cardiac Network was established in 2001 and subsequently merged with the Stroke Network in 2008 to become the Greater Manchester & Cheshire Cardiac and Stroke Network. We are now one of the largest Cardiac and Stroke Network in England and cover a geographical area with a population of approximately 3 million people. The Network has a wide range of excellent health organisations that serve a diverse cultural and ethnic population. Included in our geographical boundaries are some areas of considerable deprivation; particularly in Manchester which contributes to a high standard mortality ratio across many of the communities within the Network.
The Network aims to bring together clinicians, managers and other professionals from all organisations within the conurbation to work together to deliver equitable, high quality and effective patient focused cardiac and stroke care.
In addition, the Network focuses upon Collaborative Commissioning. The challenge for the Network is to strike a balance between the increased levels of intervention and new technologies, with the need to target resources on health improvement and disease prevention and to secure maximum health gain from limited resources. To achieve this, managers, clinicians and patients must work together to make difficult choices about how funding should be used.
If you have any enquiries about our Network, please contact us and we will be more than happy to help you.
